An Introduction to Macro-projects of Research Center for Islamic Information and Document Management (RCIIDM)

The Macro-project Thesaurus

Compiling a comprehensive thesaurus of Islamic sciences is one of the special missions of the Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy (ISCA) in order to empower the Islamic sciences. The Research Center of Islamic Information and Document Management is charge of this special mission.

Before starting to compile the thesaurus in the fields of Islamic sciences, this research center defined its field of mission (defining and explaining the scope of Islamic sciences). The reason for this was that it is difficult to determine the application of Islamic sciences because some sciences, such as logics, to which Muslims pay special attention, had a history before the advent of Islam. It is clear that the empowerment of Islamic sciences depends on the development of thesauruses in all areas that have somehow played a role in the formation, development and deepening of the religion of Islam and Islamic thinkers. In this regard, RCIIDM has included the compilation of thesauruses in the fields of Islamic sciences and related fields within its mission. "Islamic sciences and related fields" refers to sciences and knowledge that:

1- Islam has been involved in its establishment (it is the product of Islam). Such as Qur'anic sciences, hadith sciences, Islamic jurisprudence, Usul Fiqh, history of Islam etc.

2- Islamic scholars have played a role in its development, such as philosophy, logic, etc.

3- Muslim scholars have specific principles (originating from Islam) in that field, such as law, part of philosophies of meta-discipline such as philosophy of ethics etc.

Another point that this research center made part of its main mission is the continuous review of the compiled thesauri, and this matter is in fact part of the nature of the thesauri.
